In 1713, after the war of Spanish Succession, Spain and Britain signed the Treaty of Utrecht. In this treaty, to put an end to the war, Spain gave Gibraltar to the UK forever. At present, Spain wants to have Gibraltar back. People in Gibraltar want to stay a part of Britain. The question of Gibraltar affects the relations between Spain and Britain.
Gibraltar is a big rock situated at the entrance of the Mediterranean sea. It is famous for the apes that live on the rock. Gibraltar has always been important for the British Army and there is a Royal Navy base. The Strait of Gibraltar is only 14 km wide and it separates Europe from Africa.
