London Heathrow Airport is the main and biggest airport in the UK. Heathrow is 15 miles (24 km) west of Central London. It is also Europe's busiest airport for passenger traffic, and has more traffic of international passengers than any other airport in the world.
London is a huge city. There are five airports in the London area, but only Heathrow and City airports are inside the Greater London area. Heathrow Airport is used by over 90 airlines flying to 170 destinations in the world. For this reason the airport is always crowded and has many delays. It is also famous for thefts, so they also call it 'Thiefrow'.
In March 2008 Queen Elizabeth II and the Prime Minister Gordon Brown inaugurated the new Terminal 5. It is enormous, equivalent in size to 50 football pitches. It has got five floors and bus, train and tube stations that take you directly to London.
