4.2 A real engine |

In real combustion engines, energy is extracted by burning some fuel, which has previously been injected into the cylinder, finely pulverized and mixed with oxygen. Then the combustible mixture is compressed and ignited to explode. | |
The energy from this combustion moves the piston in several phases as seen in the figure on the left. In the following visual we study the modern combustion engine, in an approximate fashion, and we try to explain these phases.
